Coaches and Managers

The following information and resources have been compiled to support our Belsouth coaches and managers. We will be updating this page over the season.

Role of a Coach

  • Make playing football fun, with plenty of encouragement. Be positive!
  • Role model Respect and Fair Play. Always respect the opposing team and referees, whether or not you agree with their decisions.
  • Support your team Manager as required and maintain a happy team!
  • Always encourage your team to play to its best ability and take a balanced approach to winning.

Role of a Manager

Is our contact to the team.

  • Be the main contact from the Club Committee to the team.
  • Create a contact method for the team. Suggestions include WhatsApp, Heja; whatever you are comfortable using.
  • Pass on each week’s game information. This could include where the game is, any changes to the game time or location or if a game is cancelled.
  • Be the team Dribl guru. Dribl for U10-U18 teams involves assigning player numbers to each team member, creating a match sheet before each game, and entering scores (even though they are never advertised, go figure). There are very easy videos to follow. To our Dribl page.
  • Organise parents/carers when it’s the team’s turn on canteen\BBQ. See below.

Role of a Club Vested Official

Club Vested Officials (CVOs) are nominated club representatives who co-ordinate the efficient completion of match day fixtures. They do this by effectively managing the team’s behaviour and actions for the duration of the fixture/game. This behaviour management includes that of parents, supporters, and spectators associated with their respective team.

Essential Skills and requirements for CVOs.

  • Hold or willing to apply for a current volunteer “Working with Children” or “Working with Vulnerable People” check.
  • Must be 18 years or over.
  • Be a mature and responsible individual with people skills.
  • Be assertive but not aggressive.
  • Be respected amongst other team members.
  • Acts calmly in pressure situations.
  • Be an effective and influential communicator.

PlayFootball Registration

All coaches and managers are required to register as either a coach or amanager with Belsouth FC through Play Football. The registration process also asks for your WWVP details.

If you are going are a coach or manager for a team in the U10 to U18 divisions, please use a different email when registering to the one used to register your child(ren). Using the same email “may” cause problems with Dribl.

Working with Vulnerable People Registration

Working with Vulnerable People requirements

People who work or volunteer in junior sports in the ACT must hold a Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) positive registration. This means you must have a background check and be registered under the ACT WWVP scheme.

WWVP Registration is free for volunteers and you can apply online here: https://www.myaccount.act.gov.au/WWVPNDIS/s/wwvp-ndis-new-application-v2 or in person at an Access Canberra Service Centre. The average processing time is 3 weeks and does require having a photo taken, so if you are not yet registered please apply as soon as possible.

Once you have your WWVP card, please email a photograph of it to the WWVP co-ordinator, Zoe, at wwvp@belsouthfootball.club.

Even if you have previously volunteered and provided your WWVP details to Belsouth, we would appreciate if you would complete this requirement as we still need to sight your card at the start of each season.

Canteen Volunteering

Over the season, each team will be required to do a shift or two in the Canteen. The teams on canteen duty will have their games scheduled on the front fields.

Please note: after four weeks of games, Capital Football may make changes to the draws. This will affect U10 to U18 teams but not the minis.

Depending on how many teams are at the field each week, there will either be one or two teams rostered on each shift. You can split the shift.

  • If one team is rostered on, you will need to have four volunteers from that team for the shift.
  • If two teams are rostered on, you will need two volunteers from each team for the shift.

The Committee will link the Roster here when complete before the season starts.
