Referees

Belsouth FC is proud of our referee community. In 2023 the age lowered to referees turning 12 in the year, this gave us an influx in new Game Leaders.

There are many great benefits to becoming a football referee whether you still play the game, have retired, or have never played – there is plenty to be gained from picking up the whistle and you can earn some money along your journey.

Game Leader

Becoming a Game Leader is the perfect first step for kids aged 12-13 to start their journey in becoming a referee, while learning the basic skills of officiating in a fun and positive club environment.

This course has been specifically designed as an introduction to officiating which allows anyone who completes the course to referee MiniRoos matches (U6-U11) at their junior club.

The course is a 2 hour practical course.

You can become a Game Leader for $40. This fee includes registration in a Game Leader course, Game Leader registration fees (for the season) and the Game Leader starter kit containing the Green Game Leader jersey, whistle and bag.

Becoming a Game Leader is the perfect first step to develop the basic referee skills (confidence, leadership, communication) before deciding to take the next step as a Level 4 Referee.

Referee Level 4

This course certifies anyone aged 13+ and above to referee full-field football matches. It is a great way to become involved or stay involved in community football as well as:

  • Develop leadership skills
  • Improve self-confidence
  • Develop communication skills

Part A of the Referee Level 4 qualification consists of 3 x 90 minute online theory sessions. Part B of the qualification involves attending 1 x 2 hour training session, providing you with the practical skills required of a Referee and Assistant Referee.

Before attending the course, you must complete Football Australia’s online Laws of the Game course, and send your certificate to Capital Football’s Referee Administration Manager. The online training module provides a basic introduction to the Laws of the Game and their interpretations which will prepare you for the Referee Level 4 course.

Capital Football recommends that anyone aged 13 gains experience as a Game Leader for 1 year before undertaking the Referee Level 4 course.
